![]() The soldered tone holes and the unevenly shaped Y-arms makes me suspect, that this flute could perhaps be hand crafted, or semi hand made. ![]() Serial number 5623 is marked on all sections. ![]() The silver plating is also in good condition (except for the tenon, where the plating has worn off), and the pads have many years of flute playing left in them. It is marked H Bettoney, CB Co, Boston USA and appears to be all silver Patent: Sept. This flute is in perfect playing condition. Everything indicates, that Bettoney - Cundy was the supplier of this 'Beacon' flute: The same serial numbering system (with the letters: BN ) was also used by Bettoney, and this flute has a striking resemblance with their 'Cadet' model. Bettoney bought out the Cundy Music Publishing Co. The keywork on these models were identical and lacked the simplifcations found on earlier. So this flute is a stencil, made for this particular music shop and the shop's name was then added to the instrument. Bettoney began to make flutes and piccolos, while continuing to import and sell clarinets. NORMANDY 5, 7, and 10 By the middle-to-late 1950s, Normandy models 5, 7, and 10 had been introduced. 'Beacon Musical Instruments Co.' was a music shop, located in 229 Stuart Street - Boston, Mass. Made in USA" Closed keys, soldered tone holes and C foot. You are looking at an antique (or vintage) silver plated flute, that shows the following inscription on the barrel: "BEACON / BOSTON, MASS.
